A rainy day led us to explore the Caves of Drach, a hidden wonder beneath Mallorca’s surface. Stepping inside, we were immediately surrounded by towering stalactites and shimmering rock formations, their reflections dancing on the underground lake below. The cool, dimly lit chambers felt almost otherworldly as we followed the winding path deeper into the cave. At the journey’s end, we sat in silence as classical music filled the cavern, a breathtaking performance on the water that made the experience even more magical.
As the rain poured outside, we ventured into the Caves of Drach, a stunning underground world filled with towering stalactites and glistening rock formations. The highlight of the experience was the breathtaking concert on the underground lake. As we sat in silence, all the lights went out, plunging the cave into complete darkness. Then, soft music filled the air, and from around the corner, boats carrying musicians emerged, illuminated only by gentle lights. It was mesmerizing to first hear the melodies before seeing them glide across the water, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. Without phones or cameras allowed, it was refreshing to be fully present in the moment.
Coming from Virginia, the caves reminded me of Luray Caverns, with their intricate formations and vast chambers. The biggest difference was the underground lake—while Luray has Dream Lake, a shallow body of water known for its stunning reflections, the Caves of Drach feature a much larger, deeper lake that plays a central role in the experience. At the end of our visit, we even had the chance to ride a boat across the same lake the musicians had played on, a peaceful and fitting way to exit this otherworldly place.
