The City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) is one of València’s most iconic landmarks, a striking architectural masterpiece that blends culture, science, and entertainment. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, this futuristic complex is a must-visit destination, featuring sleek white structures that contrast beautifully with the surrounding pools of water.
Malvarrosa Beach is València’s most famous urban beach, offering golden sands, a lively atmosphere, and stunning Mediterranean views. Located just a short distance from the city center, this wide, open beach is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying a leisurely stroll along the palm-lined promenade. With plenty of beach bars (chiringuitos), restaurants, and cafes nearby, Malvarrosa is a great spot to try local seafood dishes like paella, which originated in València.
València’s Old Town (Ciutat Vella) is a captivating blend of history, culture, and vibrant local life. Winding cobblestone streets lead to grand plazas, centuries-old buildings, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. At the heart of the Old Town is the stunning València Cathedral, home to a mix of Gothic, Baroque, and Romanesque architecture—and a chalice believed to be the Holy Grail. Nearby, Plaza de la Virgen and Plaza de la Reina are perfect spots to soak in the atmosphere over a café con leche.
During my short 24 hours in València, I knew I had to visit L’Oceanogràfic, Europe’s largest aquarium, located within the stunning City of Arts and Sciences. Before heading inside, I wandered around the futuristic complex, snapping photos of its breathtaking architecture.
I spent about three hours exploring the aquarium, though I easily could have stayed all day. With its massive size and diverse marine habitats, I found myself rushing to see everything before heading to the airport. My favorite exhibits were the beluga whales—graceful and playful—and the jellyfish, glowing hypnotically in their dark-lit tanks. From sharks to vibrant coral reefs, every section was incredible.
If you're visiting València, L’Oceanogràfic is a must-see. I highly recommend setting aside plenty of time to fully enjoy this marine wonderland!
Even though the sun doesn’t set over the water at Malvarrosa Beach, I couldn’t resist heading there in the evening for a peaceful walk along the shore. The golden light cast a warm glow over the sand, and the sound of the waves made for the perfect backdrop as I wandered along the water’s edge, taking in the relaxed atmosphere.
After my stroll, I stopped at El Trompo, a beachfront restaurant, where I ordered a sangria that was both delicious and impressively large. Sitting at an outdoor table, I sipped my drink, read my book, and let the sound of the ocean complete the moment. It was one of those simple yet perfect experiences—a yummy drink, a good book, and the soothing rhythm of the waves.
If you’re visiting València, Malvarrosa Beach is a great spot to unwind, whether you’re looking for a scenic walk, a refreshing drink, or just a quiet moment by the sea.
As soon as I arrived in València, I headed straight for Old Town, eager to wander its charming cobblestone streets and take in the beautiful architecture. The main square, bustling with life, offered an incredible view of the València Cathedral, its intricate design standing tall against the lively atmosphere.
After soaking in the energy of the plaza, I decided to go inside the cathedral and climb the 207 steps of El Micalet, the cathedral’s bell tower. The narrow spiral staircase was a workout, but reaching the top made it all worth it. From there, I had breathtaking 360-degree views of the entire city, even spotting the City of Arts and Sciences in the distance!
Exploring València’s Old Town was the perfect way to start my visit, and if you love history, architecture, or just getting lost in beautiful streets, it’s an absolute must. And if you’re up for a climb, El Micalet is definitely worth it!
